(Giving)

Here at Knockout, we do our damndest to make a good magazine, but we also do our part

to financially support organizations that try to make the world a better place--whether via the arts,

through direct donations to those in need, or any variety of other approaches. Specifically, we donate

5 percent of our proceeds to a cause with each issue. Given that we're a literary magazine, this usually

isn't a ton of money, but it's something.

Here's a brief history of how we've donated with each issue.

Issues #4 and #5: Motionpoems.

Motionpoems is something special. An organization dedicated to broadening the audience for poetry,

the Motionpoems crew turns great poems into short films for the big screen (as well as distribution online).

Motionpoems recently inked a deal to create films based on poems from the Best American Poetry series.

The videos are free, fun, and feature some great writing. Check out the short video above of co-founders

Angella Kussabe and Todd Boss describing the project (and process) of Motionpoems.

Issues #2 and #3: The Trevor Project.

The Trevor Project is an organization dedicated to preventing suicide

among the teenage GLBTQ population, a group in which the suicide rate

is shockingly high. The project maintains a 24-hour crisis line for those in need,

and also provides online support as well as resources for educators and parents.
