100-Word Review of Built to Spill’s “There Is No Enemy”

This is their best album. Yes, it’s even better than “Ancient Melodies of the Future” which was my previous favorite. The album captures a dreamy, meditative feel but does so without a trace of affectation.

Best Song: Things Fall Apart. This is one of the few pieces of art that have riffed on Yeats’s great line and succeeded. (I don’t know why, but I’m put off by other appropriations of W.B.’s great line.) It’s one of those songs to listen to on repeat. And because I only have two words left to describe the album, here it is: a triumph.
